Privacy Policy

askchadd (“we,” “us”) is a real estate information and agent-referral service for the North Carolina Triangle, operated by Chadd Thompson, a licensed NC broker affiliated with Jacob Ellis Realty. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

What we collect

• Account information — your email address, name, and optional phone number when you create an account or request an agent connection.
• Home and search activity — addresses you look up, homes and areas you save, and the home you add as “My Home.”
• Chat conversations — messages you send to the askchadd assistant. We store conversation history in our own systems: for signed-in users so you can pick up where you left off, and for all conversations so we can review and improve how the assistant answers. Conversations are never sold or shared with third parties.
• Usage data — IP address and basic request data, used for security, rate limiting, and abuse prevention.
• Site usage — our own servers record page views and page interaction (time on page, scroll depth, page-load speed, whether the chat was used) with a first-party visitor id, described under Cookies and analytics below. No third-party trackers are involved in this.

How we use it

• To run the service: answer your questions, generate reports, and save your progress.
• To match you with a local real estate agent when you ask us to, and to make that introduction.
• To email you about your account and homes you follow (welcome email, requested reports). You can opt out of non-essential email anytime.
• To keep the service safe: rate limiting, abuse and fraud prevention.

The referral model — what gets shared

askchadd is free to you. When you request a connection to your matched agent, your contact information (name, email, phone if provided) and what you’re looking for are shared with Chadd Thompson / Jacob Ellis Realty, and, once a referral is arranged, with the matched agent’s brokerage so the introduction can happen. The agent’s brokerage pays us a referral fee only if your purchase or sale closes. We do not sell your personal information to anyone.

AI processing

Chat messages are processed by an AI model (currently provided by Anthropic) to generate responses. We also use an AI model to summarize and quality-grade stored conversations so we can review how well the assistant answered. Don’t include sensitive personal information (like financial account numbers) in chat; it isn’t needed to help you.

Service providers

We use vendors to run askchadd — hosting (Vercel), database and authentication (Supabase), AI processing (Anthropic), email delivery (Resend), and internal team notifications (Slack). They process data on our behalf to provide the service. Listing data is provided by Doorify MLS under license.

Cookies and analytics

We use essential cookies and local storage to keep you signed in, remember your saved homes and preferences, and secure the site. We also set two first-party cookies of our own: a random visitor id (ac_vid, 1 year) that links your visits on this site so we can understand how askchadd is used and, if you later sign in or request an agent, connect your earlier activity to your account; and a first-touch cookie (ac_ft, 90 days) that remembers how you first found us. These work only on askchadd.com, cannot follow you to other sites, and are never shared with or sold to third parties. We record your cookie-banner choice so we can honor it. Separately, and only if you accept in the cookie banner, we use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used (with IP anonymization); decline and no Google Analytics cookies are set. We use no advertising cookies. Signed-in activity on askchadd (like reports you view and homes you save) is recorded in our own systems to power your account and, if you request an agent, to help make a good match.

Your Privacy Choices

We do not sell your personal information. We run no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies; the only consent-gated cookies are Google Analytics's. You can change that choice at any time using the Your Privacy Choices link in the site footer: open it and toggle the non-essential category off to withdraw consent (or back on to re-enable). Turning it off stops analytics immediately; essential cookies that keep you signed in and remember your saved homes stay on, as does the first-party measurement described above (it is our own, works only on this site, and is never shared).

Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to know what personal information we hold, and to access, correct, or delete it. To exercise any of these rights, email chadd@askchadd.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.

Retention and your choices

• We keep account data while your account is active.
• You can ask us to access, correct, or delete your personal information anytime by emailing chadd@askchadd.com.
• You can unsubscribe from non-essential email via the link in any message or by emailing us.

Children

askchadd is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update this page and the date above. Material changes to how we handle your data will be flagged on the site or by email.
